Fragrances… not too pretty

Chemically formulated fragrances have permeated every area of our life. Every day we use lotions, potions, and cosmetics to make us look, smell and feel better, but what if those same products are actually making us feel worse.  Pure Natural Diva suggests we take an inventory of all the products we are using that contain fragrance ingredients, as one of the simple steps you can take in moving towards a healthier life. So simple… yet such a challenge.

Think toxins in fragrances can’t be THAT bad? Check out this piece.

Thank you for this post!! I have asthma and chemical sensitives so fragrances are hard on me. The other day at my chiropractors office I ended up with a major allergy and asthma attack because someone that was there earlier in the day had bathed in perfume and the table I was on smelled like it and most of the office. My eyes were burning, I was coughing and having trouble breathing, and had a headache. You want to leave the chiropractor feeling better not worse! I had to take a shower as soon as I got home and wash my clothes. I washed my hair three times to get the smell out. It was horrible.

I stopped using perfumes when I was pregnant, and now, five years later, I’m still perfume free. What I’m noticing, though, apart from the fact that I rarely get mosquito bites anymore, is that it’s getting more and more uncomfortable to stay in a room full of people – that chemical smell of deodorants, bodylotions, hair products and softeners mixed with the sweat and the cigarette smoke they are trying to cover up, is really not a lovely one. And I don’t even think they notice, as their smelling sense has become numb from the overuse, but it’s kinda scary, though. It’s like having a gas leak, and you’re the only one able to smell it. Noone will believe you, of course, until they try it for themselves.

It is so interesting that you can’t tell how much it impacts you until you start eliminating it from your life. An amazing testament to how our bodies adapt… and to how much our bodies are doing when we’re around a lot of fragrance.
